Fingers crossed the chickens don't learn how to lift the top mesh and scratch these up too...
Gardening whenever I can... even in pyjamas. Gardening for sustainability, to eat organic produce, a love of the outdoors, but mostly for my children.

And finally the seeds are growing...
It has taken a full cage over the seed bed, but my seeds are growing beautifully now they are totally protected from the chickens. With a few rows of carrots, onions, turnips and beets sown a few weeks apart we should have some good root veg in the next few months. I have another bed with a similar structure over it, so we will even have successive crops!

Good luck with your winter crops PG. I have given up with them as my stuff doesn't want to grow in winter. Even lettuce, cabbage or broccoli. - Dave
ReplyDeleteWinter is the best time to grow broccoli! No need for pesticides as the cabbage butterflies aren't around. They do need good doses of seaweed extract during the growing season, though.
